PhD Thesis
machine.gif A PhD thesis is the formal -paper or otherwise- proof of the capability of acquisition and dissemination of new knowledge.

The author must demonstrate that he can understand a particular domain and perfectly assess what the relevant state of the art is. Able to find missing points the author can contribute to improve the knowledge in that domain.

It is important to note that "new" is not just new to the researcher, but also new to the community, hence the need of mastering the state of the art.

The knowledge advances thet we are looking for in ASLab are those that can be leveraged at the level of engineering processes, i.e. to better build better machines. We do not hesitate, however, to enter other fields where the base results can contribut to the advance of knowledge in such domains.
